A Simple 6-Day GLP-1-Friendly Meal Plan

A practical, protein-first eating plan built around simple meals, balanced nutrition, hydration, and habits that are easier to maintain.

Guidance from holistic pharmacist Larry
This meal plan is for general education and is not individualized medical or nutrition advice. GLP-1 medications and other diabetes medicines may affect appetite, digestion, hydration, and blood glucose. Speak with your prescriber or registered dietitian before making major dietary changes or beginning a fasting routine.
Protein First Begin meals with eggs, Greek yogurt, chicken, fish, or tofu.
Fiber-Rich Foods Add vegetables, berries, legumes, and modest whole grains.
Simple Portions Eat slowly and stop when comfortably satisfied.

The 6-Day Meal Plan

Adjust serving sizes to your appetite, nutritional needs, medication response, and clinician's recommendations. Smaller meals may be more comfortable for some people taking a GLP-1 medication.

Day 5

Comforting foods

Lunch

Chicken salad with olive oil dressing and a small portion of walnuts.

Dinner

Homemade chicken and vegetable soup with extra chicken for protein.

Day 6

Optional lighter day
Hydration

Water, sparkling water, unsweetened tea, or black coffee if tolerated.

Protein-Support Option

Consider broth, Greek yogurt, eggs, or a protein shake rather than completing a strict water-only fast.

Important

Stop fasting and eat if you feel weak, dizzy, shaky, persistently nauseated, or otherwise unwell.

People using insulin, sulfonylureas, or other medicines that may cause low blood glucose should discuss fasting with their clinician before attempting it.

Easy Rules to Follow

  • Start meals with protein before moving to vegetables and carbohydrates.
  • Eat slowly and pause when you begin to feel comfortably full.
  • Use small or moderate portions of chickpeas if legumes cause bloating.
  • Drink fluids regularly throughout the day rather than waiting until you feel thirsty.
  • Limit fried, greasy, or very rich meals if they worsen nausea, reflux, or stomach discomfort.
  • Include regular resistance exercise when medically appropriate to support lean muscle.

When to Contact Your Clinician

Seek professional guidance if you experience persistent vomiting, severe abdominal pain, symptoms of dehydration, repeated low blood glucose, or difficulty consuming enough food and fluids.

Do not change the dose or schedule of a prescription GLP-1 medication without speaking with the prescribing clinician.
